No, I Don’t Want to Live in Interesting Times
“May you live in interesting times.” How appropriate that this famous expression is credited to an ancient Chinese curse. Ever since China intentionally spread COVID-19 around the globe while facing absolutely no consequences for it, free, civil society as we know it has quickly eroded away.
Every conspiracy theory turns out to be true months later. Every country is facing backlash from its people. Every world leader is toeing the red line in the sand that leads to world war. Every government is set on eroding the rights of its people to force them into a centrally planned society and economy. You will own nothing and be happy. I am tired of living in an era where everything…EVERYTHING…is “unprecedented.”
I don’t want to live in exciting times. How about living in boring times? That sounds incredible. Maybe I just want to live a normal life in a stable society without worrying about my favorite restaurant being burned down because a wedge political issue magically hit headlines in an election year. You know what would be great? Finding a Chipotle that actually has all of its ingredients or paying less than $100 for a tank of gas. How about not seeing creepy TikTok videos of androgynous teachers explaining why they tell 6 year olds what happens in their bedrooms. Maybe a nice hot cup of “expressing opinions without someone posting your name and address online for their psychopathic followers to harass you.” Doesn’t that sound great?
Let’s bring back consequences for being a piece of crap human. Stop protecting people from every source of pain. Some sacrifices need to be made in the short term to ensure success in the long term. Put politically incorrect comedy back on TV and ignore the people who get a stick up their ass. Teach children reading, writing, & arithmetic, and save the editorials for college electives and smug print journalists. Speaking of journalists, how about they stop ignoring huge, relevant news stories just because of the political party of the subject? I couldn’t imagine the story of the crackhead son and business partner of the President, who put every single act of his Sodom-and-Gomorrah lifestyle on camera, being anything but the top news story in the country for at least 4 years. Let’s encourage family building rather than promiscuity and jet-setting. How about career paths before college degrees and an end to guaranteed student loans? We need meaningful degrees that produce real value, not a jobs program for academia. Stop overmedicating children because the alternative is prosecution if they get in a fight at school because they’re kids. How about some moral foundation to society? You don’t have to be Catholic to believe that most Christian values are fundamentally good for civil society. Let’s respect life again, born and unborn. Undervaluing the lives of others is why we live in anarchy now. This idyllic portrait of America can still exist if we make the tough decisions and are not afraid to rock the boat. Best of all, it makes the world boring.
